AMS Graduate Fellowships

The AMS Fellowship Program is a source of unique opportunities for outstanding students looking to pursue graduate education in the fields of atmospheric sciences, chemistry, computer sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, hydrology, mathematics, oceanography, and physics. To date, 388 students have been designated as AMS fellowship recipients. To be eligible, applicants must be entering their first year of graduate school in the fall of the year the scholarship is offered (e.g., fall 2026) and pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences at a US accredited institution. A minimum 3.0 GPA or higher is required and applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status. No age restriction exists. Three letters of references and relevant transcripts will also be required to apply. Stipend amounts vary from $5,000 to $26,000, presented to each fellowship recipient for a nine-month period in the academic year. In addition, fellowship recipients will receive partial travel support to attend the AMS Annual Meeting, including complimentary meeting registration, hotel, and air fare. Notifications will go out in March. Students who have already received their Masters are not eligible. The Society encourages applications from women, minorities, and disabled students, traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.
