Earth Island Institute established the Brower Youth Awards for Environmental Leadership in 2000. We recognize the outstanding leadership efforts of young people with this annual, prestigious award. Scholarship Details • Six recipients each receive a $3,000 cash prize • A short film is produced about each winner’s environmental work • Winners are flown to a recognition event that includes leadership development activities • All travel, meals, and lodging expenses are covered • Winners become part of a global alumni network of youth environmental leaders Eligibility Criteria • Must be between ages 13 and 22 as of the application deadline • Must reside in North America, including Mexico, Canada, and U.S. territories • Must be leading or actively involved in an environmental project or campaign • Applicants must submit their own application (no third-party submissions) Application Process 1. Visit the official application portal linked on the Brower Youth Awards website 2. Complete and submit the online application by May 20th at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time 3. Upload a photo of yourself 4. If selected as a semifinalist, participate in a video call interview and submit a letter of support from someone familiar with your environmental work (not a parent or guardian) 5. Monitor your email for status updates or requests for additional materials Please contact us well in advance of the deadline for support with the submission of your application or clarifying questions. Applications submitted after the deadline due to technical issues will not be accepted. We review all applications and a panel of judges vets all semi-finalists. If you are selected as a semi-finalist, we will request a video call with you, along with the letter of support from your recommender. All Brower Youth Award applicants will be notified of their status.
