Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship provides financial assistance to community college students interested in transferring to a 4-year college or university and majoring in geography. Two to four awards of $1,500 are made annually by the American Association of Geographers (AAG). Applicants must be currently enrolled at a US community college, junior college, city college, or similar two-year educational institution, must have completed at least two transfer courses in geography, and plan to transfer to a four-year institution as a geography major during the coming academic year. The application deadline is November 15, 2026 (by midnight, Eastern Time). Selection is based on the overall quality of the application, scholastic excellence, and academic promise; financial need is also considered. The scholarship is funded by Darrel Hess, author of McKnight's Physical Geography: A Landscape Appreciation, and the formal announcement of the award takes place at the AAG Annual Meeting.
