In 1993, GFOA's Executive Board voted to create the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship, which was renamed to the Clark Burrus scholarship in 2024, to recognize and encourage outstanding minority students enrolled in a course of study preparing for a career in state or local government finance. Scholarship Details • One $10,000 scholarship awarded annually • Supports minority students aiming for careers in state or local government finance • No employment requirement for applicants Eligibility Criteria • Full-time or part-time graduate and upper-level undergraduate students • Must be enrolled in a program focused on public administration, government accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration with a government or nonprofit focus • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada • Plan to pursue a career in state/provincial or local government finance • Student has not been a past winner of a GFOA scholarship • Requires a letter of recommendation from someone who can attest to your commitment to the public sector Application Process 1.
