The Smith Diversity Scholarship is available to historically underserved students in Nebraska who are graduating high school seniors or GED recipients. Students who demonstrate financial need and are planning to enter a college, university, or vocational/trade school are welcome to apply. LFS awards renewable scholarships up to $15,000 per year for 4-year college or university and up to $12,500 per year for trade school. The mission is to provide a post-secondary education to Nebraska's graduating seniors from underrepresented backgrounds with financial barriers, who display academic aptitude, leadership, determination toward goals, and a spirit for making an impact. Applications are open October 1, 2025 – February 1, 2026. No minimum GPA, SAT or ACT requirements. Applicants must submit an essay and high school transcript, and provide at least one letter of reference (two requested). Applicants must have a household income under $75,000. Applicant must be a 2026 graduating senior attending a Nebraska public, private, charter school, or home school association, or have obtained their GED. Applicants must plan to begin their freshmen year of post-secondary education the following academic year and be in the United States legally. Awards will be announced in April 2026.
