SMU Nancy Ann & Ray L. Hunt Leadership Scholars Program

Students selected as Hunt Leadership Scholars will receive an annual Hunt Scholarship over four years. The Hunt Scholarship will replace and supersede any centrally administered merit aid, but Hunt Scholars may also be eligible for additional departmental scholarships or need-based aid for a total scholarship package valued up to the cost of tuition and fees. In addition, because leaders of the 21st century will need to have a global vision in any area of leadership, the scholarship also covers the airfare for a leadership-based study abroad program immediately following each scholar's sophomore year. The Hunt Scholarships covers about 75% of tuition and fees. Scholarship Details • Covers approximately 75% of tuition and fees • Includes tuition and airfare for a study abroad program during the scholars' sophomore year • Offers partial tuition assistance for interterm courses • Provides opportunities to meet with distinguished leaders Eligibility Criteria • Open to entering SMU first-year students • Applicants must have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their high schools • Academic achievement is a key consideration Application Process 1. Submit your application for admission to SMU. 2. Complete the Hunt Leadership Scholars Program application, which may include essays and interviews. 3. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in a finalist weekend on the SMU campus. 4. Finalists will have the opportunity to interview with the selection committee. 5. Recipients will be notified of their scholarship award. Approximately 25 entering first-year students at Southern Methodist University each year will be selected as Hunt Leadership Scholars. Leadership is the primary criterion for selection. Around sixty finalists are invited to interview (the interview is required for consideration for the Scholarship) in March. All applicants will be notified of whether or not they have been selected as finalists via email in mid-February. In addition to submitting an application for admission to SMU, students applying for the Hunt Leadership Scholarship must submit an additional essay and YouTube video statement. Maintaining eligibility: Must maintain a cumulative SMU GPA of 3.000 or greater and full-time enrollment. Scholarship is awarded for eight semesters or four years or graduation — whichever occurs first.
