Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program

The Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program offers up to $10,000 per year to high high school graduates aiming to teach in West Virginia.Scholarship Details• Renewable for up to 4 years• Up to 25 recipients per year• Can be used to cover tuition, fees, room and board, and other expensesEligibility Criteria• Graduating high school senior or recent high school graduate• Academic excellence, community service, and extracurricular involvement• Enrolled in an eligible West Virginia institution• Pursuing a teaching career in West Virginia• Committment to teaching in West Virginia in a critical need area for 5 years upon graduation• FAFSA on fileApplication Process1. Complete the preliminary application in advance of its deadline2. Create a WVSAM account to monitor application3. Complete the Second Round Application if chosen, including the FAFSA4. If chosen as a finalist, submit a short video5. If selected as a recipient, commit to the scholarship's requirements and follow them to maintain the awardApplicants will be notified of their eligibility by March of the year following their preliminary application submission.
