Description

The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities National Scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen based on an overall assessment of the application for freshman admission. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents or be eligible for the Minnesota Dream Act. Students must be residents of any state, excluding Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Manitoba. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information. Scholarship consideration is based on a holistic review of the application for freshman admission. Full consideration for academic scholarships is given to students who submit a complete freshman application by the corresponding application deadline dates. Scholarship recipients are notified by the end of March of their senior year. No separate application is needed, though demonstration of financial need is required for certain academic scholarships. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, or be eligible for the Minnesota Dream Act. The strongest consideration in the decision is given to academic factors including coursework through high school graduation, grades in academic coursework, class rank/GPA, rigor of academic curriculum, ACT or SAT scores (not required for 2025, 2026, and 2027 terms), English proficiency test score when required, and the applicant's academic interests related to the intended major/college. Context factors considered include evidence of exceptional achievement, participation in extracurricular activities related to the intended major, community service, leadership, first-generation college student status, overcoming barriers, family/job responsibility, contribution to diversity, personal or extenuating circumstances, and military service.
